DIVERSITY MANAGEMENT

“Assimilation is not the goal in learning to value diversity but rather the goal is to learn to have an inclusive workplace where every person is valued for who they are.”

Companies that successfully diversify will have a better chance of successfully reaching a diverse client base, which in turn produces increased production. This is why Pam enjoys teaching this program. She is multicultural, and will share what her life was like being raised in an interracial marriage during the early 60s and 70s, and what her life is like today. With Pam’s combination of coming from an multicultural family and her compassion to help others, she identifies with many of today’s problems in the workplace, and has extensive knowledge and expertise in the area of workplace diversity. Pam is also currently a student at the University of Toledo majoring in an individualized program in Diversity Management and Psychology that includes workplace diversity, cultural communications, diversity training, and organizational behavior, which allows her to relate her education to her teachings.

Today's workplace is stressful, with long hours, shortage of staff, and negative attitudes. All of this creates poor work performance, enhances office gossip and increases employee absences. With a positive attitude, one can learn and develop positive strategies to overcome this changing world. Pam speaks on the positive changes needed in the workplace today. From the top to the bottom of the company, she explains how one job is just as important as the other on a business team, and she emphasizes that a title does not define work performance. Pam offers companies new strategies to help their teams become more open to change in diversity management and become less resistant to new ideas.  Company’s or organizations that implement diversity training can improve the their bottom line. Pam will help your company or organization reach their professional and personal goals.

Training goals on the individual level may include:

  • Increasing awareness of the participants own biases and experiences with differences.
  • Building specific professional skills such as cross cultural communication or how to handle sexual or racial harassment in the workplace.
  • Expanding knowledge and competency to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

Training goals on the organizational level include the following:

  • A cultural audit that is designed to determine the cultural climate  at the workplace or organization. This takes place with input and interviews with employee’s, Human Resources personnel, managers and other professional staff.
  • Examine systematic issues that hinder employee’s from becoming productive and successful.
  • Training staff to become diversity trainers.

Other topics covered in Pam‘s program can include: women in management, disability in the workplace, and affirmative action.

“In order to accept others for who they are without judgment. you first have to know and accept yourself.“

TEEN IN A BOX

This workshop is done primarily for teenagers in schools, churches and conferences but Pam has also presented this speech to teachers, counselors, psychologists and social workers with great success, helping these adults better understand the youth that they work with daily.

For "Teen In A Box," Pamela reviews the number one place where violence occurs. Also included in this topic is the cycle of violence from one generation to another, as well as the implications it can have on the next generation, including incest, verbal and physical abuse, drug and alcohol abuse. "Teen In A Box" identifies what society thinks teens today are all about, and the impact it has for teenagers that do not fit into society's expectations, and how the results can lead to:

  • drugs
  • alcohol
  • gangs
  • pregnancy
  • violence
  • depression
  • suicide

Much of the time, teens are not even aware of how they have even ended up in some of the situations they have found themselves, and cannot even understand  the feelings they may be experiencing. "Teen In A Box" helps teens identify how they got to where they are, and also shows other teens the importance of being true to oneself and stop trying to be like everyone else. This program allows teens to participate, sharing their stories and opinions. It's a superb way for teens to express themselves, and to see how other teens are handling maybe the same situations where they have found themselves.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

This topic is very close to Pam's heart. In this speech, Pam shares her past experience as an abused victim, and she now considers herself a survivor. More importantly, she will discuss the consequences of the choices we make in our lives, and the trials and tribulations to face the challenge to change. Pam will also share the effects of raising a child from an abuser and the challenges it has, not only for the abused woman, but also for the children.

One of the greatest opportunities for Pam with this topic is having spoken with male prisoners that had been abusers or had been abused also in their younger lives and the effects it has on them. Pam has shared with prisoners and abusers about what life is like for women and children that make it out of an abusive relationship.

Step by step, Pam takes the audience through the healing process that has gotten her to where she is today, explaining her compassion to help others, and offering guidance.

OTHER TOPICS

Pam has also done a variety of other customized workshops, some of which have included the following topics:

  • Change Your Attitude, Change Your Life
  • Reflections of My Mother
  • Girl Friend With An Attitude
